Alienating X is a performance framework developed by Johanna Linsley and R. Justin Hunt. It proceeds from a (over)literal reading of Brecht’s ‘not…but’ acting technique as a way to process materials particularly related to archiving, labelling, classifying and creating taxonomies. The alienated performance creates a distorted reflection – a strange mirror – which queers the way we think about the archive.
Alienating X is a project of I’m With You. It has been presented at the Potentials of Performance symposium as part of the Performance Matters research project, and at the Generative Constraints conference.
